Digital Twins for Surgical Applications

Laparoscopic cholecystectomy is a surgical procedure used to remove a diseased gallbladder. The gallbladder is a pear-shaped organ that is located underneath the liver. The surgical techniques required to perform this procedure are quite complex, obtained through experience. The goal of this project is to generate a 3D reconstruction of the major components of the surgical scene, which include the gallbladder, the liver, and the connective tissue, to assist novice surgeons in learning the surgical techniques required to perform this procedure.
